Chronicles of Blackjack

Though there are quite a few evidences about the beginning of the game Blackjack, but people say that it is very much related to Baccarat. Vingt-et-un is a French game that was popular in France since 19th century and was very much similar to Blackjack.

Greatest Odds

While Vingt-et-un was becoming well-accepted among the people, a rule was being followed which stated that if with a hand of two-cards, you make a 21 enclosing a Black Jack, then you will get ten times the money you staked upon. In the present time, this odd makes you win a ratio of 3:2, without considering the cards it contains.

Basic Strategy

Just like other games being played at casinos, you cannot presume a best move in Blackjack. You never know whether you need to stand or hit, if it is a 13 versus dealer’s 8. However, using computers, players have managed to make a perfect strategy. The computer tells you about the best move in all possible hands, thereby giving you an opportunity to win.

Edward Thorp

The fact that the game can be won by counting the cards and changing the size of bet, was actually given by Edward Thorp. He was originally a MIT professor who even wrote a book revealing various facts about the game and some history including the wars between players and casinos. Though several books were written after that, as well, but his book ‘Beat the Dealer’ still gives pleasure while reading.

Gambling Bigger with Favorable Deck

Your possibility of winning the game increases when on counting the cards, you find more of high cards in the deck, however dealer bust them very often. The edge could be turned around, if you bet smaller when deck is not hot and bet bigger, when it is hot.

When the casinos found that the strategy of the players to count the cards and make a win is allowing them to take a great deal of money home every day, they made modifications in the clauses. This made the players aggravated and compelled the casinos to revert back to the previous rules.

Altering Strategy with Favorable Deck

Players started altering their strategies while making a card count, so as to steer clear of being spotted by the casinos. Changing the bet size had become so evident for the casino that players thought of modifying their betting strategy in order to win the game. This made it very difficult for the casinos to spot whether the player would choose to stand or hit.
